Our Mission
Vermont Dance Alliance believes that dance is a transformational art form. By providing a network of resources for dance artists and educational opportunities for movers and audiences, we expand the visibility and accessibility of dance in Vermont and bolster the creative economy of the state.
A MOVEMENT FOR DANCE
About VDA
The Vermont Dance Alliance cultivates deep relationships between its members and helps to foster a thriving artistic community throughout the state by:
Supporting the creation of new work
Connecting dancers with resources and each other
Increasing the visibility of dance in Vermont
Educating the general public about the importance of dance to Vermont’s communities
The initiative began in June 2016 as a volunteer-run effort to gain insight into what was already happening within dance in Vermont. Its mission and vision expanded as it gained a broad base of members who represent a plethora of dance genres and skills.
VDA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, supported by its membership system, which is comprised of dance artists, service partners, patrons, and sponsors, each of whom play a vital role in our ecosystem.
The Why
On it’s website, the CDC says:
Arts and culture can be valuable to community planning and development strategies.
By involving local residents, community spaces can represent and serve residents.
Communities with more appealing features, like public art, can attract more visitors and connect people and places in new ways.
Art can also help improve the local economy, and make communities more attractive and inclusive for people of all ages and abilities.
If you believe that high-quality art is a benefit to our state, economy, and quality of life, please considering joining us as a member! Dancers, producers, performing arts venues, and arts enthusiasts of all genres are encouraged to participate in our movement to gain more support for dance and the arts in the state.
Let’s help Vermont attract, retain, and nurture great artistic talent!
